THE IMPLICIT COMPASSION PROJECT
Cultivating Compassion and Breaking Down Barriers
The Implicit Compassion Project is a non-profit organization that was created by Shorewood Highschool Student Sontri Jorkhang after The Compassion 2020 Project hosted by the Washington State Leadership Board in partnership with Lieutenant Governor, Cyrus Habib. Mr. Habib selected 5 high school students in the State of Washington to be a part of a Student Delegation on a trip to Dharamsala, India. On the trip, the delegation went to various places and met the Dalai Lama all with the goal of learning how compassion is manifested within different areas. Then with the new knowledge, each student delegate would create "Compassion Projects" which are projects that focus on cultivating compassion within each of the delegate's communities. Sontri's compassion project is to eliminate the implicit biases and stereotypes that get created in the school environment. Through each Implicit Compassion product that is bought, all profits go to non-profit organizations that focus on facilitating conversations about the biases and stereotypes that are manifested in schools.
